Bangladesh has reported 7,841 dengue hospitalizations in September — the highest monthly tally this year.

The health directorate also reported 22 deaths from the mosquito-borne disease during the same period — a drop from 34 fatalities in August.

As many as 7,698 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals in August.

With another death logged on Friday, the first day of October, this year’s dengue death toll currently stands at 68.

Dhaka remains the dengue hotspot in the country. Of the deceased, 63 were reported in Dhaka city, two each in Chittagong and Khulna divisions and one in Rajshahi.

Some 975 patients diagnosed with dengue fever are undergoing treatment in the country as of Friday morning, according to the DGHSOf them, 766 patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals in Dhaka, while the remaining 209 were listed outside the capital.

Some 18,362 patients have been admitted to different hospitals with dengue since January across the country.

So far, 17,319 dengue patients have been discharged from hospitals after recovery, said the DGHS.

The highest number of dengue patients recorded in a single day was on September 7, with 343 cases.

In July, some 2,286 people were diagnosed with dengue and 12 died. In June, as many as 272 cases were recorded with no deaths.

According to the health authorities, there were no dengue-related deaths in the first six months of the year.
